The Sterling is a British 9mm caliber submachine gun. It was tested by the British Army in 1944-1945 as a replacement for the Sten, which it only began to replace in 1953. It was in service until 1994, when the L85A1 assault rifle entered service. It is currently used by many armies and police agencies.
